Shaving razor burns – Prevention and Treatment


A smooth shave without any razor burns and bumps make you look and feel good. But getting a perfect experience of shaving without these irritations and burns is a process easier said than done. Skin irritations, that happen right after you are finished shaving, are known as razor burns. You may feel burning sensations and itchiness on the affected part along with red rashes appearing on the skin. As they say “prevention is better than cure”. Follow these simple steps to enjoy a burn-free shaving experience.


Use a clean razor:
The first and foremost requirement of a burn free shaving experience is a clean razor. Keep changing your razor from time to time. Make sure, you have thoroughly washed your face before begin shaving. These things can surely avoid causing shaving burns.


Do not over-shave:
Do not shave an area more than twice. It can cause severe shaving burns. Don’t press the razor too hard into the skin. In simple words, be efficient but don’t be over efficient.


Use of a quality shaving gel/cream:
Always use a shaving cream that is composed of a high concentration of moisturizers and lubricants. Not only it helps in minimizing the burns and irritations caused by shaving, it also keeps your skin smooth.


Use of hot and cold water:
Showing with warm water before shaving softens the facial hair and it causes less irritation. Use of cold water on the area shaved after shaving prevents razor burns.

You can treat the burns caused by shaving in following simple ways:


Use apple cider vinegar:
Want your razor burns to be treated quickly? Use apple cider vinegar. It works like a magic on your razor burns. It has anti-inflammatory characteristics, which work to reduce the itching sensation and inflammations.


The process of using apple cider vinegar is rather simple. Dab a cotton ball in it and apply it to the affected area. Wash it with water after letting it dry for a while. Repeat these steps twice or thrice a day till the razor burns disappear.


Aloe Vera:
Aloe Vera is known to have a soothing and cooling nature that will give an instant relief from the razor burns. Healing process is healed by aloe vera since it keeps the skin moisturized. Get a freshly extracted aloe vera gel and rub the gel gently on the affected part. Rinse it off with cold water after allowing it to dry. Continue doing treatment twice or thrice a day for a couple of days.


Use of aspirin:
If you have highly sensitive skin, do not follow this remedy. Aspirin reduces redness and burns caused by shaving. Make a paste of two aspirins by putting them in a teaspoon of warm water. Apply the paste on the affected area for 10 minutes before washing it off with lukewarm water. Repeat the process twice a day to reduce the burns.
